Israeli-Palestinian Negotiating Partners

Approach

IPNP PARTICIPANTS learn interest-based negotiation methodologies and frameworks through an intensive joint training process led by world leaders in international and domestic conflict resolution drawn from the Harvard Negotiation Project, Harvard Law School, and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Training emphasizes negotiation tools and techniques that enable participants to create value before making commitments, to develop adaptive leadership skills, and to build consensus and coalitions. Following their initial training workshop in the US, participants continue to meet on a regular basis during a year-long cycle of programs for honing and applying their newly acquired skill set.

Program participants are all highly knowledgeable individuals involved in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. Qualified candidates meet rigorous criteria for consideration through a careful nomination and selection process. Special attention is given to balancing political, ideological, gender and professional backgrounds. The IPNP program has trained over 65 participants (half Palestinian, half Israeli) to date, and aims to reach 150 negotiators and negotiation advisors by 2008.
